The Facebook recommendations bar lets people like content, get recommendations and share what they’re reading with their friends.

Based on your chosen settings, the recommendations bar is located either on the bottom left or bottom right of your pages. When the page loads the recommendations bar is collapsed and people viewing it are shown the option to like your page.

As people navigate toward the end of your page, the plugin expands. The expanded view displays a social recommendation of the next article to read on your site. You can see an example of it here on

Within the first option you have the ability to activate/deactivate the recommendations bar.

Show on Mobiles

When you activate this option, then the recommendations bar will also be shown on mobile devices, otherwise it will only be displayed on desktop computers. If you want to test that, than it's not enough just to resize the browser to see if it works or not. You need to test it by using a mobile device.

Facebook API Locale

With this option, you can explicitly tell which language you want to use for communicating with Facebook.


Here you can choose wheter you want to display the recommendations bar on the bottom left or right side.


Here you can select the action verb, which is being displayed on the recommendations bar. The options are the same as for the Facebook like button: Like or Recommend.


Within this option you can set the action for the recommendations bar to collapse.

Read Time

You have the ability to let the recommendations bar collapse after the user has spent some time reading your content. The number is in seconds.


Within this option you can enter a custom label for tracking referrals. Must be less than 50 characters and can contain alphanumeric characters and some punctuation (currently +/=-.:_). With that you can easily see within your tracking software, if your site visitors do use the recommendations bar and which recommendations do get the most clicks.

Number of Recommendations

Here you can set the number of recommendations to display. By default, this value is 2 and the maximum racommendations you can display are 5.

Data Age

Within this option you can set a limit on recommendations and creation time of articles that are surfaced in the recommendations bar. Default is 0 (no date-based limits). Otherwise the valid values are 1-180, which specifies the number of days.


Here you have the ability to display recommendations from other sites thean your won one. To do that,enter one domain or a comma separated list of domains to show recommendations for. Leave it empty to use your own domain.
